Here’s why it happens: 🌕 The Science Behind the Name During a total lunar eclipse, the Earth moves directly between the Sun and the Moon, casting its shadow across the Moon. While the Moon is in total shadow, it doesn't go completely dark, instead, it turns a deep red or copper colour.
